No accounts, no tracking
ReadRungs has no user accounts. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personal information — from anyone, including children. There are no ads, no third-party analytics, and no tracking cookies.
Your documents
Text you paste or files you upload are sent to our server for one purpose: generating the leveled renderings, glossaries, and quiz questions you asked for, using Anthropic's Claude API. We do not store your documents on our servers, and Anthropic does not use API content to train its models. When the response is generated, processing of your document ends.
Your progress
Reading progress — your current document, rung, and edition choice — is saved only in your browser's local storage on your own device. Clearing your browser data erases it. Nothing about your reading history exists on our servers.
Math practice
Math Club trails check authored answers in your browser. Completed challenge identifiers, earned sparks and badges, the selected trail, and the chosen emblem stay in this browser's local storage. They are not sent to our server. Scratchpad notes last only for the current challenge. Clearing browser data removes game progress. Anyone sharing this browser profile can see its rewards.
Math practice uses a question bank imported from Adaptive Tutor. The app sends a topic and previously seen question identifiers to select a problem, then sends the question identifier and selected answer to check it. These requests do not include a name or profile, and the math route does not save them to a database or send them to an AI model. Practice history and review estimates are saved in this browser on this device, separately from reading progress. Clear Math Progress removes that math history; clearing browser data also removes it. Standard security and rate-limit processing described below still applies.
The math workbench and research studio
Guided investigations, simulations, and the linear-equation checker run in your browser. Asking the live tutor sends the displayed source, your working, question, and explanation-depth choice to our server and Anthropic's API to produce a response. The tutoring route does not save that content to a database. Uploaded math documents use the same extraction service as reading documents; review the extracted notation before using it.
Sources carried between Reading and Math and source working are held in this tab's session storage. Notebook entries are saved in local storage until cleared with Clear Notebook or browser controls. Anyone sharing this browser profile may see them. These records are separate from the practice bank and reading history. Research Studio calculations and bounded searches run locally. Saved research notebook entries contain their inputs, outputs, annotations and evidence labels in browser local storage; downloaded notebooks contain the same material. Source passages stay in tab session storage. Source discussions and uploads use the processing services described above. Clearing browser data removes the saved research notebook.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, our hosting infrastructure briefly keeps standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, request path) for security and abuse prevention, including rate limiting. These logs are not used to identify or profile readers.
